Can you get contact lenses directly from an optician?!

Question: Can you get contact lenses directly from an optician?
Hey my question is:
Can i get contact lenses directly from an optician? Or do I have to go to an eye doctor first? How does this work exactly in the UK (only been here for a few months and dont want to switch from glasses to contacts)
Hope anyone can help me out with this problem :P
Thx

Answers:

I don't know what you mean by eye doctor, but the opticians will book you in for an eye test with them if your going there for the first time, and they will be able to work out the costs and stuff and will be able to sort out the type of Lense and frame or contacts, depending on your preference. With some opticians the eye test will be free for first time customers.

In the UK , the eye Dr. is called an optician....that's who you go to.

You will need an eye exam to start with , so it is an optician you see there.
