is slight eye pain a symptom of nearsightedness?!

Question: Is slight eye pain a symptom of nearsightedness?
I am 19 and have recently developed a slight pain behind my eyes that I never had before. It usually begins when I'm watching tv...my tv is fairly far away from the couch. I have to squint to get relief. I'm making an appt to see an eye doctor but I'm just wondering if this is a symptom of nearsightedness? it runs in my family

Uncorrected prescription disorders can cause asthenopia. Asthenopia is basically non disease related discomfort of the eye associated with straining to see clearly.

Me. I am an optometric physician.

If you have to squint, it may cause discomfort. As far as pain - possibly. That is certainly something to tell the doctor when you see him or her and have them look into it to rule out the possibility of something more serious. Is this pain a symptom of nearsightedness? Not necessarily however everyones reaction may be different.
