where is the problem if you have a loss of color vision? in the eye or in the br!

Question: Where is the problem if you have a loss of color vision? in the eye or in the brain?
if the problem is in the eyes, think about how to determine whether it is an optical problem or a neural problem. if it is a neural problem, how can you determine what neurons on the retina might be affected?

There are many types of colour vision loss. The most common one is genetic based... and it's in the EYE.
In the back of the eye, on the retina.. at the macula (the central part of the eye)... there a type of light receptor called CONES that detect colour. There are 3 different types of CONES to detect the 3 primary colours. In genetic colour visoin problems, one of these 'COLOUR' cones aren't functioning as well (or not at all) as the 2 other types of CONES and the person has a colour vison defect.

There are also another type of colour vision loss that is due to infection to the nerve that is inside the eye..

And lastly, brain injuries (via trauma or strokes) can also cause colour vision problems.. if the injury or damage is along the colour nerve parthways in the brain, or on the back of your skull.. where Vision is interpreted and colour is perceived.

If there is a loss of colour vison then it will effect the eyes mostly because the nerve fibres gets badly effected and becomes loose and it cannot send proper signal to the brain.thus person cnt distinguish colours.

My knowledge

The brain, as it controls everything, and the eye, as it is being affected.
