I've been prescribed chloramphenicol eye drops and have been told to refrig!
Question: I've been prescribed chloramphenicol eye drops and have been told to refrigerate them. I have to go away for?
Answers:
They should be kept between 2 and 8°C. In this weather keeping them outside on a windowsill would probably suffice.
GP for more years than I care to remember
no - like your specialist says, they should be kept refrigerated....otherwise any germs in the drops will multiply and could cause you another infection, or the stuff that the drops are made of might go off, and not be good for your eyes.
Are you going anywhere that you could ask to use a fridge? If you really can't safely store them over the weekend, I would leave them at home and start to use them as soon as you get back....unless it's very urgent you start them right away. Ask NHS Direct what you should do, or ring a pharmacist in the morning first thing, and ask their advice. I certainly wouldn't keep them at room temperature for all that while.
No. Follow directions! Get a cold pack and an insulated bag or small cooler. Put the cold pack and the drops in the bag during transport.
