Just got contact lenses...I have some questions?!
Question: Just got contact lenses...I have some questions?
1. If I'm going in the car and I doze off, will it hurt my eyes? Should I plan on wearing glasses then put my contacts in when I arrive somewhere?
2. My one eye has a lense for astigmatism. It seems to take a long time to settle. Is this normal?

Hi there,
1) It depends on the type of contact lens you wear, and how long you doze off for I guess. If they are monthly disposable contact lenses and the material is Silicone Hydrogel then they are usually suitable for occasional 'naps' and even overnight wear on an occasional basis, but I recommend you talk to your optician if you have any further questions about your lens type. Small amounts of sleep 10 minutes or so, shouldn't hurt you at all, and i do occasionally nod off briefly in my daily disposable contact lenses. It just leaves your eyes slightly dry, and i would recommend to remove them after.
2) The one lens for the astigmatism is called a toric lens and on occasion can take a little while to settle. If this continually happens or takes an unusual amount of time to settle i would see your contact lens optician about the fit of the lens. The toric lens is weighted, usually by the silicone being slightly thicker in different areas. This is called dynamic stabilisation, but there is also other methods to achieve this affect.
Every time you blink the contact lens will spin slightly, but it is supposed to return to its intended place instantly. Upon first insertion however it might take a few minutes for it to settle down.
I hope this has helped.

1. Yeah if you just doze off, no biggy. When you wake up your eyes may be a bit dry, but it won't hurt anything.
2. Not sure about this..sorry.
