Women Only Please! Need help ...?!

Question: I recently took strong antibiotics which caused me to have a yeast infection. I have never had a one before, but know that they are really common. My doc instructed me to get over the counter meds. and if it doesnt go away to call her back and go see her. Well my period is starting today so my question is

Can I still take the yeast infection meds if my period has started ? Its just the first day of it so its not a lot

What is the best over the counter meds. for yeast infections?

Sorry for the detail, but I tried calling my doc. back and she hasn't returned my call, and I need to take care of this ASAP!

The Monistat one day ovule treatment works best and yes you can still use it on your period. If it doesn't go away call your doc and request Diflucan, it's one pill can totally eliminates the yeast infection in no time.

yes it should b alright, u can still take medication!

Yes you can still do the meds if you are on your period.

If your doc had not instructed you not to take them on your period, I don't see why you should stop.

Yes, you can still take the medication. Just use it as directed, it still works.

Dont stop taking the meds if your still having symptoms. Always finish the meds prescribed to you! Your period wont interfere, just continue to get better!
Oh....and drink lots and lots of WATER!!!!! it will help flush it out!

Yes, you should still be able to treat the infection while on your period. Topicle cream will help the most for instant relief otherwise they have the capsules you can insert to treat internally. I think Monostat is a commonly used brand.

Yes, you should be fine. I am on countless medications, and as long as most things aren't MAOI inhibitors, you're fine.
But even that is a rare occurence.

Yes, you can use the meds they recommend during your period.

I always use acidophilus pills from the health food store. They are natural, friendly bacteria that will regulate the bacteria in your vagina. They usually work in a day or two. And they are less expensive than Monostat.

Yes you can still use them. Canesten Combi is best I have found. It is cream and pessary.

you can still take infection meds when you have your period. just ask at you local pharmacy, they'll tell you which is best to use.

There are usually guidlines as to how to use the product when on your period on the product instructions. Use something like Monistat which you can get at any drug store.

yes you can use the meds while having your period. i usually like monistat 3 day in the egg shaped capsules, they melt throughout the day so its less messy. i've had a hard time with the 1 day meds, they just dont have enough time to work i think.. so i wouldnt get them.

Yes you can still take meds when your bleeding - that fact you are bleeding won't affect the drugs at all. The best ones are when it's a pill and a cream taken together. But it depends on the person, some womem say a pessary works best.

Good luck, thrush is so horrible.

Maybe ask the Pharmacist at the chemist/drug store. They normally have pretty good knowledge about medications.

monastat, they have it in different doses...i think they even have 1 day now, but they should have it at your local grocery store

SEROIUSLY ASK THE PHARMACY
they can guide you
some of them can be used during your period but I doubt that they will be as effective as if you wait until it is over. also if you use tampons, the medicine will be absored into them
get two boxes of whatever you decide to use and use one now and one in 5 days
way cheaper than other office visit

Yes you can still take them

The only one I've taken is Monti??? It's a one pill thing.
I don't think the period matters.

Yes you can, and normally your period will flush out your infection. I normally get yeast infections 2 weeks before my period due to discharge that comes before, but the period usually flushes it out... I personally HATE over the counter meds for the infections, so i just have my doc call me in a dose of dyflucan (sp??). 1 day and its gone.

Most over the counter meds for yeast infections are creams, you can still use them but it's going to be messy and I would suggest you using pads instead of tampons.

However, I would call her back and tell her you started your period and you would like the oral medication, since you are on your period, she shouldn't have a problem with calling the prescription in for ya. I hope this helps.

Yes, treat it anyway. If you finish the meds and/or your period and you still have an infection, treat it again as your period may have washed the meds out. Next time, eat yogurt when you're on an antibiotic - it will help replace the good bacteria that you are killing with the antibiotic. Antibiotics kill ALL bacteria. It's worth a try. Good luck.

You can still do the creams, if that's what you're getting at...messy but do-able. Go with 1 of the 3-5 day ones. They sell the 1 day and the egg thing but they don't work well. The 1 day are more expensive but usually you have to get 2, so you're better off getting the 3-5 in the first place. Also, your Dr. might perscribe an oral medication if you request it, but those take longer to work.

Good luck

Yes I believe it is okay to still take the meds. There are several meds that are only one application. Monistat is a good brand. If the Dr. won't call back then ask to speak to the nurse. She should be able to answer your questions too. Usually they are better about calling back quicker. I know from working in a Dr. office that nurses and Dr.s do their calling back at or right after their lunch hour. Good luck!!

Yes it is ok and start eating some yogurt. When you take antibiotics it is helpful to counter act them as far as yeast infections go by eating yogurt to keep you natural yeast levels more normal while the antibiotics are killing everything else. You already have the infections, but it may help things along some.

Monistat is the best. However now that you knows how it feels you can use an old fashioned cure next time as you have to catch it early. Use a water tight container and mix 1 part vinegar, and 4 parts water, add cotton balls. insert like you would a tampon and change every time you go to the bathroom. That way you will change it often enough. It's natural, it's easy and most important, it works!
peace

If your medication is a cream that is inserted into the vagina via an applicator, then may not be as effective to use it while your are on your period. Most vagisil products have the same type of medication and are as effective as any other product. The ones that are for one to three day use can be less effective than those that you use for a whole week. Diflucan is a prescription pill that can be used as an alternative if the creams do not do the job. The only setback is that you CANNOT drink alcohol while taking Diflucan as it will make you violently ill. So if you like to party, stick with the creams, just make sure that you do not douche or have sex while using them as this will disrupt the medication's effectiveness ( its an acid-base unbalance thing that starts it in the first place).

Of course you can take meds while on your period. I think the best treatment for that is Fluconazole ( Diflican) I know from experience. I used to get them for some reason a lot and that Diflican clears it up in one day. Don't take that cream stuff at Walmart, It didn't sit well with me. I think you have to can Diflican from a doctor or go to a clinic, but it works the best.

Hee hee. i'm answering.
