Uti, cranberry juice, healing, etc?!

Question: I had a UTI last week on vacation, only I didn't know it because I thought it was a yeast infection. When I got on the plane to come home, the real UTI symptoms started (fever, chills, intense urinary pain).

When I got home, I had a 4-day course of Bactrim. It took a while for the symptoms to really subside; I am now no longer nauseous or feverish and it doesn't hurt to pee, but there is some residual ache in the "pee" area (sorry TMI).

I went to the doc today and she took a urine sample, and it was clean. She's sending it out to see if there is some trace bacteria that may be affecting me. She said I was probably just still healing, that I should go home and drink unsweetened cranberry juice, and that's what I'm doing. She said to call if anything got worse, and that she'd let me know the results of my culture when it came back.

I guess I'm just scared that I'll never feel normal again! Can it really take this long to feel normal after a week-long UTI?

Yes it can! Keep drinking the juice. You will prb feel better in 2-3 days!

cranbeery juice helps utis yeast infections what ever i drink cran apple tho it tastes better

Yes. UTIs are horrible, especially if you didnt catch it early. They can really mess you up. You could be sore for another few days. Just keep with the cranberries!

Cranberry tablets are a great preventative. I get them from CVS and they're pretty inexpensive : )

Urinary tract infection (UTI) is a bacterial infection that occurs anywhere along the urinary tract, which includes the kidneys, bladder, ureters (tubes that transfer urine from the kidneys to the bladder) and urethra (tube that empties the bladder during urination).

I am so sorry for you. That is the most awful feeling, it literally brings me to tears! It can take a while to feel better, although once you've taken your course of anti biotics, you should start to notice improvement. Good luck to you, i hope you feel better soon.

cranberry juice is excellent for it drink up

Sounds like your doctor gave you some really good advice.

Yes, drink lots of water and cranberry juice. Remember all the Bacteria has to be gone to feel normal again my UTI lasted for two weeks

unfortunately, yews, it can feel that bed for that long. Here is another thought. Go to your local WalMart and get some cranberry pills. They are in the vitamin section. Take one a day and it will act as preventative medicine. Don't buy the name brand, get the generic. They work. I haven't had a UTI in over a year.

I hear ya! It has been one week today and I still don't feel any better. I went back to the doctor and he gave me another course of antibiotics. I am also taking OTC uristat along with the antibiotics. I hoping to feel better soon...hang in there!

Right before my pregnancy, I had aUTI and the only thing I did was drink the cranberry juice and the A to Z cranberry pills. They work miracles, after a day of cranberryin up you should feel better. I did.

Yes. it can take a while to get back to normal especially if you didn't start on the antibiotics right away but cramberry juice is the best think to drink for a UTI besides water. Good luck.

How are you managing to get that stuff down? *shudder* You don't have to drink it if you find it difficult - although it's widely held by many that cranberry helps in these situations, the verdict is still out.

If you want pain relief, go to a drug store and look for medications like Uristat. This and others of that type will stop the specific discomfort of UTI's. My experience is that it can take up to an hour to take effect. The Uristat that I use does turn the urine orange, so you might want to use a panty liner and take out your contacts if you wear them. There are others that don't have the dye, but I've only used this brand.

I'm not sure how long before you feel normal again, sorry. Turns out I've only had a UTI once or twice, and all my other symptoms were either a kidney stone or possibly PBS. So I know the pain but not the disease per se.

yes, I went through same thing many years ago and the doctor told me to drink a lot of clean water and fresh crandberry juice no sugar which you can find at any health food store.

You can get that feeling if you don't drink enough water. Experts are on both side of the drink 8 8oz glasses of water a day. My experience has been: stay flushed and avoid utis. Soda and juices don't do the trick as well as water. Also, you have to avoid sugary things. Bacteria and yeast love sugar.

If you get bored with the plainness of it try peppermint tea (Celestial Seasonings). Avoid caffeinated teas.

When I used to get the utis I would follow up the antibiotics with a week of drinking 1/4 cup of noni juice a day. It always got me back to normal. It smells and tastes disgusting, but look at it as medicine. You need to get a good brand at the health food store that is 100% pure noni juice. Lakewood is a good brand.

no, you will get better cause i have had it. and it does hurt and i don't wish it on anyone ask your doc if there is any pills you can take for me i am taking a crammberry vitamin every day so i don't get it again you can get the crammberry vitamin at any wallgreens or fred meyers or drug store where you are but i don't know how much? hopefully this helps
