Period Pain?!

Question: I just started on the pill, and this is my first period since I started.
I went on it for irregular periods, and they've never hurt before (because they lasted 6 weeks) and last night it hurt, and because I'm not used to period pains at all, I'm not too great at dealing with it.. Anyway, how long do they normally last? Like on what days is the pain a lot and then when does it decline?
And what can I do for it?
Like so that I can sleep?
Ibuprofen didn't work, and they don't sell things like Midol where I live. Thanks.

I have had severe menstrual pain since I first started menstrating when I was 12 years old, I'm 25 now. My gyno perscribed me when I was 14 800mg Ibuprofen tablets for me to help ease the pain, and it didn't work, they later put me on birth control to ease the pain.... I find it odd that you are having pain while on the pill, so first and foremost contact your gynocologist about the issue. Secondly go to a local drug store an get yourself an electric heating pad, i alternate it between my abdomen and my lower back when the pain is very bad, it eases the pain. Also, and i know this sounds off the wall, because when it hurts this is the last thing you want to do... but light excercise aleviates the pain as well, it helps loosen the muscles that are cramping, Im not talking jumping jacks or sit ups or anything too sever, a brisk walk, a swim, even getting up and doing some light house cleaning is enough excercise to help get rid of the pain.
Also another thing i have found that helps me not have the pain is an every day herbal supliment that i take its called ovex, you can get it at a drug store or a natural food store... since you stated that there is no midol where you live I don't know if it will be sold by you either under that name, so look for something with bovine ovarian hormones in it. But CONSULT YOUR PHYSICIAN before you decide to take this herbal suplement PLEASE. ok...that is the best advice I have for you good luck. Also just so you know the sever pain only usually lasts the first day... after that you will feel a bit normal again

B.c. actually helped me with cramps...but

you can try extra strength tylenol (like 500mg)
or you can try a heating pad (those are wonderful!)
maybe a hot bath

Good luck :o)

there are certain pills u can get.
But i find that if u hold a hot water bottle on your womb it really helps. and eating banana's helps too..u probs think it doesnt but it does!

lay on your side and bring you knees up to your chest. Use a hot water bottle or heating pad while doing it.

your pill should relive period pains so maybe that type of pill isn't compatible with your body so tell your doctor,in the meantime have a nice long bath and put a hot water bottle on your tum!

Did you try tylenol too? Use a warm compress or hot water bag, just don't leave it on too long. Your periods may return to normal after you get regulated on the pills. You have to remmeber you just introduced hormones to your body and you are going to be having a regular period. It just takes time. After my 2nd or third period if I was still having the pain I would talk to my dr because they may be able to give oyu a pill with less hormones in it. Sometimes thats a factor in why it hurts.

Everyone is different, but for me, my cramps last two or three days, and they are worse in the beginning and fade away as the days go on. I take lots of ibuprofen, the trick is taking it before you even feel anything or else it takes forever to kick in.

My sister uses heating pads which help out a lot

I also like to exercise, like running. It takes away from the pain

I had the same problem when i stopped the pill. My periods were so severe sometimes i would cry. And on top of that they were 10 times heavier than they have ever been. I always tried tylenol and stuff and it didn't work, the best one that did work was midol, but if they don't have that get anything for pms. I've been off the pills now for about 8 months and I think about 3 months ago the cramps weren't as bad as they had been. Anyways hope this helps

naproxen works really well for period pain. it is usually the first day or two of the cycle that you have pain. just try to be comfortable and relax. you will figure out what works best for you for comfort

Take a nice warm bath and rub your tummy. Don't stress yourself over anything. Wear something skimpy to bed, and have not-to-thick sheets, being hot and bothered is not nice when having period pains. Drink some hot chocolate before you go to bed, and make sure your actually tired when you go to bed, nothings worse than being awake, bored, and uncomfortable. Hope you feel better tommorow xx
