No, you can still use one even if you stopped your period. Nothing bad will happen. It will just hurt a little because it will get really dry in there, since you're not bleeding.

However, it's true that if you leave a tampon in too long that it can be fatal. You might get something called Toxic Shock Syndrome. Not good. :)

So you shouldn't leave one in longer than eight hours.

You can get toxic shock syndrome from leaving them in too long and yes, it can kill you. It's pretty rare, but it does happen. I wouldn't leave one in longer than 8 hours. I always switched to a pad on the last day or so.

the longest you can have a tampon in your is 8 hrs. If you have more you can suffer from TSS toxic shock syndrome...and yes it can be fatal if it isn't treated in time...
don't worry just remember to take it out regularly you should be fine.

Don't put a tampon in for discharge. They are only used for bleeding. If your period is really light, it may be best to use a smaller tampon, pad, or a panty liner to prevent the pain that comes from taking out a dry tampon. Leaving tampons in too long can lead to a rare infection called Toxic Shock Syndrome. Changing your tampons every 2-4 hours greatly reduces your chances of dealing with this. For your discharge, just use a panty liner.

Often it is only recommended that you keep one in for 8 hours. It's ok to sleep with one in. As far as it being bad for you, do a search on Toxic Shock Syndrome - that may be what that dude was talking about. Also, if you put in a tampon while you're not bleeding, and try to take it out, it will hurt because it's dry. I've had that happen to me during my period too, simply because the tampon was really dry still.

If you change pretty regularly it should be ok. Though if you keep it in long you can get Toxic shock syndrom which can be fatal. If it hurt the last time you put it in, it just means it was well...dry. It shoudlnt hurt the next time.

8 ours tops

Uhm. Kay, that guy is pretty stupid.
I've had my tampon in for two days straight before, and I've had friends who have had them in for a week.
The worst that can happen is that you'll get TSS which is Toxic Shock Syndrome.
And that's pretty rare itself.
So you have nothing to worry about.

dont wear a tampon if you are not bleeding! they are not meant for regular discharge. you can just get some really small panty liners for that. it isnt safe to wear a tampon for more than 8 hours also.

the longerst I have kept one in would be over night or maybe half a day, it would be wise not to exceed that. trust me it all becomes clearer and more common sence like as you grow older :]

look hunni, if there's no period or blood it will hurt.
always take it out from 2-4 hours a day. remember never sleep with it either.

the same happened to me, every 2 hours i changed also checked to see if any blood was there if it wasn't i'd use a pad just in case.

Its best to use a pad if your worried. or use liners.

i'll give you the site that helped me!

A tampon should only be used while your bleeding and you should not use the scented ones. They cause yeast infections.

As long as you change it frequently during your period there is no limit as to how often you use it, however that being said the gentleman that you had a response from was referring to toxic shock which can be cause from not allowing your body to breath. You should not use a tampon any longer then the week that you bleed, for the discharge you have after your period if it is excessive and bothers you, use a pantie liner it won't cause toxic shock like tampons can.

Here is a reliable site to explain more about toxic shock that can come from using tampons improperly for you to understand it.

The link between TSS and tampon use is unclear. Research suggests that for cases which occur in women using tampons, tampon absorbency is a factor. For this reason it is important that you:

always use a tampon with the lowest absorbancy suitable for your period flow

use a sanitary towel or panty liner from time to time during your period

Information about TSS is contained in the tampon manufacturers
