I don't know what I could say to help you feel more calm. I know I was freaked out my first time, and not really thrilled about going (it wasn't my idea, either, it was my mom's, too). It sounds like you have a basic idea of the exam, though you are throwing big monster images in with it. Although the first time is scary, because you don't know what to expect, it's not so bad. The swab, that doesn't hurt. You feel stuff, but it's nothing like you think. The most I have ever felt was mild cramps, just like having your period. I have heard, though, that they use smaller instruments if you are still a virgin.

Obviously, with where the doctor is looking, it's weird. Just remember, they are a doctor. This is what they do for a living. They aren't out to hurt you.

Most doctors know that you are freaked out and are going to be really gentle with you. I had the best doctor in the world, he was so great. In my opinion, male gyno's are better, but that's just me. Some women prefer female doctors. Go to your mom's doctor, she knows what to expect from them.

It doesn't really matter if you are sexually active or not. With the risk of cervical cancer being so high (not trying to scare you), it's a really good idea. 5 years ago, I went to my gyno because I had an infection and they found cancer cells on my cervix. They caught it so early on, that I was able to have a very basic in office procedure done to take care of it. I'm a big advocate of getting regular check-ups. It's so worth it.

I don't know if I've said anything to help. You really don't need to freak. It's not as bad as you think. Good luck, hon! It'll be over soon!

The fear of it is worse than doing it. Just go. All women have to. It will be over before you know what has happened.

it doesnt really hurt its more so like pressure but it doesnt hurt. done be scared i was 15 when i 1st went. i wasnt sexually active either but i went anyways. dont be scared hun its not that bad really.

Every woman has to do it at some time. I had my first gyno appointment at 14 as well (period issues). Just remember that all women go through it. It helps to find a gynecologist that you are comfortable with maybe a lady.

theres no reason to go unless youre sexually active or are 18, whichever comes first.

its no big deal though, they do a pap smear, which is just a swab they do to test for stds, infections, etc. and she will feel around inside to make sure everything is normal and feel your breasts to check for lumps. it doesnt hurt, but you say youre a virgin right, so it could cause some discomfort.

dont worry! relax, its no big deal. :)

At your age and since you're not sexually active there's not a real reason to go. I didn't go until I was 21. I haven't been sexually active and have no fear of disease because of that. I don't understand why your mom is having you go now. It is uncomfortable to get it done and for me it can downright hurt. If it does, tell the person giving the exam. It hurts worse if you are tense but it's very hard to relax in that situation. A lot of people just say to suck it up and relax but that's easier said than done. Ask the person giving the exam to explain it before they begin and as they go through it. Ask your mom to schedule you with a woman doctor if she's so keen on making you go.

i was 16 when i first had it done. but every woman has to do it, just try to zone out when its happening and dont think about it too much, its really quick, and it will keep you healthy getting checked regularly. they take a swab and then usually just press sort of on your stomach to feel your ovaries and uterus to make sure theres nothing abnormal. good luck.

My doctor told me I didnt have to go for a cervical physical until i was sexually active ( involving the clamps and swabing the cervix). Although its not a bad idea to get checked out once you reach puberty, it shouldnt be too much a priority tho seeing as your only 14. i would say just relax and remember millions upon millions of women have undergone the same examination... and survived!!! its not as bad as you think. They will just ask you some general questions about your health and most likely the doctor will determine you do not need a pelvic exam but instead will just look at your breasts and take your blood pressure etc.
if for some odd reason they still want to do a pelvic exam then yes it is uncomfortable the first time, but they are good at explaining what they are doing before they do it so its not unexpected. They will open your vaginal opening with metal clamps.. which causes no pain, only slight discomfort. Then they will take a swab of your cervix with a long cotton swab... you cant feel this at all. the most uncomfortable part is when the doctor puts there fingers inside your vagina to feel your pelvis...again no pain.. just akward. it takes like 10 min at the most all of this, so dont worry. good luck and talk to your doc about any worries your having

You only have to go if you are sexually active, or 18 otherwise you shouldn't have to. Unless you are having issues or a possible infection.

nothing Joe M said was true, dont listen to that troll.

you dont really need to go until you are sexually active. It hurts less that way. It's mostly just an uncomfortable feeling, and isnt terrible, and once its done the pain goes away. and the whole exam take about 5 minutes. less than that even!

I went when I was 12 (severe period issues) and had it done twice and I'm still virgin. For me, it's painful because I was so nervous about showing my " " and again, I'm virgin but my mom told me that girls/women need to get it done, for health reasons. The doctor will check to make sure there's no infection or cancer, make sure everything is okay and function properly. I finally suck up an do the exam. Remember that exam can save your life someday (cervial cancer is not a thing to mess with)

hey hun
first of all dont worry cause it makes it worse.
when you go into the room the docter will ask you a few questions about pubety and your peirods. and if your sexaul active if i was you wi wouldnt want my mum in the room at all but thats up to you .if you tell the docter somthing that you dont want your mom to know he wont tel her its all converdishal even if you are still young.
he will leave the room ask u to put a gown on
then the doc and a nursewill come in the nurse will ask you to put your feet in these stirrups just to keep your legs open and she will ask u to slide down the table just relax when your at this point . then they will start the exam. cause your still a virgin the docter will be gental than orther cause your not use to all this and because it might be a bit painfull
dont tense cause it will just take longer. just look at the wall or something if it hurts telll him. and if you want the nurse to hold your hand cause ppl i know have .. she will and she will talk to you about anything
