When you say "tube" I think I see the problem. A tube with an opening at the end you're inserting will wind up scraping up your insides. You need to look for something rounded, no hard edges or seams. 4 or 5 inches is probably as deep as you want it to go, deeper than that and you'll bang against the inside of yourself.
Plastic is fine, don't even think about anything glass, a crack or a chip in the surface could hurt the heck out of you. You need a closed surface on the part that you're inserting, I've heard of girls trying an empty glass coke bottle, and a vacuum built up inside the bottle, and it hurt them a lot.
Softer and rubbery is better than hard. If Nerf made something the right shape and size it'd be a big seller. Go through the toy aisle at the dollar store and pick out a thing or two that mght work. I also know one girl who buys her shampoo based on the shape and size of the bottle.

No, you should not bleed from "fingering". What probably is happening is this: if that tube doesn't have smooth edges at the end/opening, then you are probably scraping up inside your vagina. Be careful, this could lead to infection. You will know if you go too far with any inserted object because it will hurt!
its badd. dont push it in too far.. like use your finger its better and safer or find your hotspots and move it with your hands up and down..
