Graying too young--help!?!

Question: I'm only in my early 20's and already I'm starting to get tons of gray hair. It's awful because my hair is black, and I feel like I have to touch the dye up every 2-3 weeks because of how fast the grays are coming in. It's ridiculous! I know it comes from genes, isn't there something else I can try to see if it works in the next months? I'm so sick of having to dye my hair all the time at my age. Here are a few things that have happened:

In the last 2-3 months, I haven't been getting enough sleep or exercising much (school and work stress), but I haven't come across evidence showing those two things are related to graying hair;
I can honestly say my diet hasn't exactly been the best, so I know I can change that;
I only used to have to dye my hair 2-3x a year, and now it's every month.

I've heard that supplements can help, is there any evidence for this? How long does it take to see results? If changes don't work, what should I do? I really want to stop dying my hair for a while.

Multivitamin (daily). My guess is it would take months to see results. You could try acupuncture. As far as stress, practice meditation and deep breathing. Make time to get enough sleep. Still, it may be in your genes.

hair greying is a sign of anxiety and tension...dont worry relax...get plenty of sleep, do some exercise....

I wish I had some hair that I could dye. You men with a full head of hair, gray or not, it's just not fair. I'm what's called follicle challenged.

My son started having gray hair at the age of 11. I thought it was albino blonde hair cause his dad had white blonde hair. He's 23 and the grays stayed in on spot. Too bad both of you weren't in different states you could both date each other. Just be happy you have hair cause many young women like yourself start going bald. Some young women your age have lost their hair due to Cancer or Chemo. There's a famous actress who has thinning hair and wears a wig. I don't know that pesons name but saw an interview last year on TV. My nephew is 23 and he's going bald. He's starting to lose his hair and it does look bad. By the end of this year he may have to shave it to bald. Richard Gere and George Clooney started young with Gray hair. I am 46 and started my grays when I was about 30. Your grays are with you for the rest of your life. I stopped dying my grays last year when I went to a Salon and paid nearly 40 dollars for it when it came out in 3 weeks. I thought maybe the Salon would be my only successful solution but it wasn't. Some do say that stress and anxiety can cause grays but thats not always true cause Richard Gere and George Clooney are rich, famous and happy. It's heredity those grays cause my dad started his at a young age as well as my Uncle. One of my classmates in high school had so much grays that we just got use to it. My sisters have grays but they dye it. My grays are only on the top front of my hair but strings of it is underneath. I look so old. I just laugh at it now cause I get Senior Discounts. I gave up trying to convince others that I am 46. BTW, some may say stress and anxiety cause these grays is only a myth cause my other sisters are all stressed out. What you do now is learn to live with these grays and go to a salon that will style cut your hair so the grays look presentable. You could start wearing hair scarfs or bandana. I call my color hair plantinum. I have black hair so these grays make it look like platinum. If no one likes my grays too bad cause I like myself. Seriously, no offensive to those who wear toupees or wigs but my only last resort will be a wig. Some men don't like women with wigs. This is why I stated it would be my last resort. At my age there's plenty of men with grays. I just haven't found that one particular one to be attractive like Richard Gere, George Clooney or Ted Danson.

I was a very dark haired kid, but I started to go grey around the age of 12 years old,!!!!!!! my father went completely white b4 he was 20... I was told it was genetic and a zinc and magnesium deficiency, however one must seek professional help in my opinion b4 just heading off and swallowing loads of vitamins etc as ones such as zinc can be dangerous.
After dying my hair for about 20yrs I shaved it all off completely and let it grow through to see what it looked like and it turned out to be all silver, a very nice colour I think, so now I put fun shades of pinks and purples etc into the fringe and underneath at the back, they're semi-permanent I can change them often and I never get bored, plus its cheap as I can do it myself at home. I think grey hair can be flattering if u can feel confident about it, I also think it looks terrific on men, it gives them a distinguished appearance............you probably earned each of those grey hairs one way or another.............they say grey hair equals wisdom....good luck!!
