My mother has bulimia?!

Question: It's complicated, but my mum had an operation a few years ago..it's supposed to help people lose weight by stopping them from eating so much. She's lost a lot of weight and is pretty skinny now, she just has excess fat. Anyway, most of the time she has had it she's thrown up after meals because she eats more than she is supposed to. I've never really thought much of it before because I just assumed this operation had been good for her...but I've been noticing lately that she isn't eating much at all and when she does she just throws it up anyway. Today she only had a small yoghurt because I made her. I've said something to her about it and I think she knows she has a problem. She has also been very weak lately and has been getting sick. It's hard because she's my mother, I've always seen her as a strong woman. It's like I've been living in my own world. I'm not sure why she does it. Should I talk to her more about it? I don't know what to say! Sorry this is long.

It's possible that this could still be related to her surgery (givng an example). Depending on the particular weight loss surgery she had if it's one that has to do with a band it may be too tight (saw something about this on tv once).

I would recommend that you talk to your dad about your concerns as well. He might be able to help your mom too.

You are doing a good job by making her eat. Try talking to your aunts, uncles, or dads, or even possibly teachers. This is not healthy, and I am proud you are taking responsibility.
