PMDD Premenstrual dysphoric disorder or PMDD is a condition associated with severe emotional and physical problems that are linked closely to the menstrual cycle. Symptoms occur regularly in the second half of the cycle and end when menstruation begins or shortly thereafter. PMDD is not just a new name for premenstrual syndrome (PMS), a condition that affects as many as 75% of menstruating women. It is, however, considered to be a very severe form of PMS that affects about 5% of menstruating women. Both PMDD and PMS share symptoms in common that include depression, anxiety, tension, irritability and moodiness. What sets PMDD apart is its severity. Women with PMDD find that it has a very disruptive effect on their lives. There are 3 broad approaches to treating PMDD. While most experts recommend a combination of all 3, there have been no scientific studies to determine if combination treatment is really the best approach. It is likely that the best approach or combination of approaches will vary from woman to woman based on things like symptom severity and which symptoms are most troublesome.
Here are the 3 approaches with some examples of each:
Medications - including antidepressants, antianxiety drugs, analgesics, hormones and diuretics.
Psychobehavioral - including exercise and psychotherapies (cognitive-behavioral, coping skills training, relaxation).
Nutritional - including diet modification, vitamins, minerals and herbal preparations.
Talk to your doctor and there are meds for it that really do help (YAZ: very common med) also look it up im sure youill find some more good information.

Good Luck! :D

I get that too and I find that it helps to take the contraceptive pill. Other than that, when I get paranoid, upset I remind myself that its my time of month and that I am probably thinking too much about stuff!

I think u should speak to ur doc. Hormones can really mess u up. I'm going through menopause and I'm all screwed-up. ;-(

If you are suffering from a dramatic change in mood every time you have your period you should consider speaking to your doctor. Lots of women suffer from depression at this time of the month and put up with it because they think it's normal, but it isn't. You should be able to find a balance so you're barely affected by your period at all.

Well just do what i do ignore the depression times and find something fun to do to get you going. Something fun like hanging with friends, go to clubs, go to parks or something like that, or even find something to pleasure you. Just find something.

when the time of the month comes by all I do n it works 4 me casue i also get very depressed is a home remedy that my grandma tought me how 2 do...
it's like a Tea but made out of hot water n cinnamon sticks... they relax u n make u feel better u start taking it since day one...
trust me it works try it out
all u need is
- a cup of water (or as many as u want)
- teaspoon of sugar
- cinnamon sticks (one whole one)
try it let me know how it goes

You need to speak with your doctor.about this they can help you with this...

HAVING YOUR PERIOD IS A NATURAL THING, BUT THE SYMPTOMS MIGHT BE NORMAL TOO, JUST IN CASE SEE THE DOCTOR AND HEAR WHAT HE/SHE HAS TO SAY ABOUT IT BE SAFE:)

It sounds like you're going through some really tough PMS.

First of all, talk with your doctor. There are new medicines out there that can REALLY help with hormonal depression, anxiety, etc.

Secondly: it might help to keep a journal. And, when you are feeling well, confident and energetic -- write a letter to yourself to remind yourself that this depression is only temporary -- that you go through it every month and you always come out of it fine.

It's funny, when we're depressed, we get this kind of "amnesia" where we forget that we ever felt good."

The other thing you can do is to create a "comfort box" for yourself -- so that when you feel yourself 'going down' you can go to this box... stuffed with all the things you like -- movies, books, pictures, a favorite texture, or anything else -- so that you can begin to help yourself when you feel so weak.

But first, check with your ob/gyn or regular dr.

Good luck! and don't worry -- you WILL feel better!!

contraceptive pill?

OK well you can't make the depression go away very easily so what you need to do is challenge it- do things that make you feel good!

-Chocolate and exercise induce endorphines ( happy hormones) in to ur system which will lighten your mood!

-Take the time to put on some make up, making the time for yourself will help with changing the typical depressed mind set!

-Have a long bubble bath- this will help you relax and release the tension you may be feeling. It will also make you feel cleaner- one thing I hate when on my period is to feel dirty!

-Dress up for your evening meal or a trip outto the pub! You'll feel a million dollars!

Take my advice and you'll soon be back to your normal confident, humerous aand energetic self!

Hope this helps!
