PCOS...bad dreams...bad past....what can i do?!

Question: Ok well, i might aswell start with my PCOS. Iv'e been told its actualy not as rare as i thought which gave me a boost of confindence, knowing that i'm not the only one. But iv'e gone completly off track with it all. I went to my doctor finaly after 6 years. My periods were never regular, maybe twice a year if i was lucky.. and until i was 17 i was a realy slim girl. When i went to my doctor he said it was due to my weight, but no matter what i said about my past weight...he wouldn't have none of it. He reffered me to a dietician.. who gave me no help. I know how im supposed to eat, as i do eat healthily already with some regular exersize. And now im stuck...My doctor said i can't have any treatment for this untill ive lost weight...and im starting to give up hope. Also, i have a bad past catching up on me heavily. I refuse to go to my doctor again as the lack of help really put me off. A bad experience 3 years ago has given me bad dreams and sleepless nights. What can i do now?

Hi there!
It makes me so angry when I hear about docs like yours!
PCOS causes weight gain not the other way round.
Woman with PCOS find it very very hard to lose the weight and keep it off. This is due to your hormones.
You might never lose weight if you don't get treatment first.
Part of this might be going onto the pill to regulate your hormones and periods.
This is a site I found from someone else on Yahoo.

http://www.pcosfriendly.co.uk/
Not sure which country your in, but there are lots of PCOS forums in the USA as well. There is also a Yahoo forum.
Read up on your PCOS and know your rights with your GP!

Please please don't give up! Your not alone! :0)
There are lots of doctors who DO know what they are doing and are not all bad. (but as you have found, there are lots of docs who do NOT help one bit) Can you try another doctor perhaps?
You also need to get your blood tested for insulin restistance etc.
My doctor was crap as well and It's only my research and pushing things that have got them to act! Now changed doctors as I was very unhappy.
Do all you can but be realistic and if that means changing doctors who WILL listen to your past and you present problems then don't wait around! Diet and exercise is also not the be all and end all of getting better with PCOS. It is very much part of it, but not always a cure.
Stress can also be a trigger etc. There are many different things to this and many different woman!
We are not all the same with the same PCOS symptoms or level of severity. Docs need to change their view on this!
Good Luck!
Feel free to email me if you wish! :0)

hi lolz sorry this doesnt have any thing to do with the question but i wanted to know if you wanted to be my friend?
