When you get tested for PCOS, can they tell straight away if you've got it?!
Question: instead of waiting for the test results
Answers: instead of waiting for the test results
Sometimes.
I had a scan first, the girl didn't understand what she was scanning for and said "Oh I can see lots of little eggs". (they were cysts!!).
They told the doctor I was fine. I then had a blood test which my doctor didn't understand and he told me I was fine.
After 9 months of gaining weight, no period, feeling awful, I lost my temper and was sent to a hormone specialist who took one look at my scan pic and blood test and told me "You have PCOS - it's blindingly clear from both your test results".
It *can* be picked up but from experience, many doctors are still 'in the dark' about this illness so you really have to keep pushing and pushing.
When I had mine I had to wait for the results to go back to my GP & combined with the blood test reults they then made a diagnosis.
Whoever does the test might not be qualified to know for sure.
The consultant who sent you for the test will be a better judge.
Usually its the blood and scan results assessed together, you will probably be told to go and see your doctor in a day or twos time.
