Question: I had a colposcopy done and they took a biopsy, read on!.!.!.!?
I had a colposcopy done and they took a biopsy!. They said having brown discharge (old blood) is normal and it may even look like coffee grounds!. How long does it take before this will go away!. It is totally gross and there is quite a bit of it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
Answers:
They put a sort of "paste" over the biopsied area, it looks somewhat like coffee grounds and yes brown from where you bled from the biopsy!. They put this special paste over the biopsied area for protection and to help it heal!. I know it's gross but there is not much you can do but wait for it to flush out!. However, if you begin bleeding bright red blood again and it's not time for your period, then definitely call the doctor back!
To Puppy: Feces does not pass through the cervix!. She said colposcopy, not colonoscopy!. Big difference!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Coffee grounds is a proper term for what you're seeing!.!.!.it's just old blood!. It could last for several days until the area that was biopsied heals!. As feces is passing through, it could irritate the area and cause some bleeding!.!.!.!.!. especially if you're a bit constipated!. I would think it would stop within a week but if you're worried just call the surgeon's office!. His secretary should be able to tell you over the phone!.!.!.!.!.or just call the emergency dept at your local hospital and ask one of the nurses who answers the phone!.
Edit: Thank you Cheribie for pointing that out, and my apologies to the questioner!. I did in fact misread the procedure you had done!. My answer was correct for a colonoscopy, not a colposcopyWww@Answer-Health@Com
