How do I over come this fear so that I can get a pap test?!

Question: How do I over come this fear so that I can get a pap test!?
I was sexually abused as a child, and now slowly getting over it!. My periods are irregular, so my mum wants me to get a pap smear/pelvic exam, etc!. so that I can get on birth control to regulate it!.

I DON'T WANT TO BE TOUCHED THERE! The only person I trust to be down there is my fiance and no one else!. I have Virginitiphobia (the fear of rape), and I don't want anything to happen!. I know I can trust doctors, and I know that they are professionals!. I know it's for my own health and that I need to get it done, but I just can't! I don't know what to do because I want to be on some form of brith control, but the process to get there is just terrifying to me!. Plus, my mother doesn't know of the former sexual abuse, and with my family situation, it's just not gonna work to tell them about it!. Believe me on this one!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Getting a pap is a good idea!. Go in to the gyno just for a chat before you make an appt for the exam!. Choose a female gyno who you feel comfortable with!. Talk to her about your fears- don't worry, I'm sure she's heard them before! She may even perscribe a sedative to help you get through!. And keep in mind that there is NOTHING sexual about a pelvic exam!. You'd expect it to be because its a sexual area, right!? Once you get over the basic awakwardness of the position, its actually rather boring, and not sexual at all!. So go in and talk to her about your fears, and you'll find yourself counting ceiling tiles before the exam is over, don't worry!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The only way to overcome your fear is to go see your gyno!. You can't let your life be controlled by irrational fears!. I had a similar problem, and I finally gathered up the courage to go, and it really wasn't bad!. If you don't go, the doctors can't help you!. Do you really want that one bad experience to prevent you from taking good care of your body for the rest of your life!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

You don't need any tests to get birth control!.!.!. you just go ask the doc and they prescribe it!.
But if your fiance has been down there, get him to go with for the pap!. They don't hurt at all and you can request a female does it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you have to get it done for the birth control, you'd probably feel more comfortable with a woman practitioner!. By the way, regardless of what other individuals have said, I wouldn't take any mind numbing drugs- ie sedatives!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
