Is there something wrong with my health?!

Question: Is there something wrong with my health?
I'm actually 13 years old, 4'9 and 87 lbs. 7 months ago I weighed around 90 lbs and I decided to lose weight. I used to eat only 1 meal a day and always avoided my cravings. I got used to it and it went on for about 5 months. I got really skinny/thin and people (especially my family) noticed and confronted me about it. I then had confusion whether to eat a lot or eat less. Some days, I eat so little but in most days, I now eat A LOT like overeat until I vommit. I don't know how to control myself from eating too much anymore and right now, I eat anything even if i'm too full. I can't seem to control myself. Is it unhealthy? How can i prevent myself from overeating again? How long does it take before I get fat?

Honey, right now you are in a really dangerous place. Your body is still growing and needs a balanced diet in order to get a wide variety of nutrients and vitamins to be healthy. Eating 1 meal a day is not going to give you anywhere near what you need. Likewise eating until you vomit can will remove all electrolytes from your body, not to mention what it will do to your stomach, intestines and mouth. Please PLEASE talk to your parents or a close family member or friend about this as soon as you can and ask someone for help. Perhaps you could go on a course to find out what foods are nutritious, how much you should be eating and so on. I highly recommend that you see a doctor to make help you as well. xx

The doctor knows well so you have to consult them.

Hi - sadly, you are going to have to face up to the fact that you have an eating disorder. You won't beat this alone, and you are going to need professional help. Bulimia and Anorexia both can kill, suddenly without warning.

Yes, this is terribly unhealthy, particularly at your tender age. You are damaging your body, storing up problems for the future, perhaps even to the point of becoming infertile and unable to have children, to say nothing of osteoporosis (bone thinning) and a host of other tragic and avoidable ailments of having an eating disorder.

You have a great fear of 'getting fat' and yet you overeat from time to time, followed by a period of not eating very much at all. Soon, your metabolism will start to hibernate as it will no longer trust you to feed and fuel the engine. This will lead to feelings of sluggishness, perhaps depression, and it may lead to your desperate body laying down unwanted fat stores out of sheer desperation.

You are not overweight, but you are in a psychological backwater at the moment. Speak to a trusted relative, hopefully your mother, perhaps an aunt, even a favourite teacher at school. But DO speak up. This won't go away on its own.

Confession and admission is Step One to a normal, healthy, happy life for you. One where you eat to live, not live to eat.

Good luck.
